The Historical Archive of La Palma del Condado is located at the Council's building, former Conception's Hospital or Saint Mary's Hospital, built in the 15th Century and completely renovated in 1924.
At first, the Archive was in the two rooms located in the attic, withstanding insulation problems, water filtration and inappropriate temperatures. All this was compounded by a continuous file growing, which makes the warehousing capacity insufficient; therefore, a move was required. In this respect, a room at the courtyard building was equipped, using the ones that existed already.
The Notarial Collection, for its part, was located at the notary's office in his own house, at an independent room. It was not until the opening of the current Council building in 1929 that it was moved into it.
From 1987 to 2003 the Municipal Archive Warehouse has undergone different moves due to the inventory, organization and installation labour carried out by different technical equipments. A suitable location for the better conservation of the document files was the purpose of these actions. Currently, a new reorganization of the archive services is being attempted.
This Service rooms are going to be distributed in the following specific areas:
1. Working Area (documentation treatment) and Reading and Research Room.
2. Historical Warehouse of the Municipal Files and Protocol Area.
3. Administrative Warehouse Area.
4. Auxiliary Library Area.
