According to the political representation system of the current Spanish Constitution, the City Council is the closest body to the citizen.
The town councillors are elected by all the neighbours through either direct or secret universal suffrage during the municipal elections that take place every four years in accordance with the electoral law. So, these elected councillors are going to become the Municipal Corporation. The Mayor is elected as a second petition by all the councillors of the different political parties with a municipal representation. Once this is done, the Mayor appoints the Deputy Mayors, who will occupy his position when absent. They create the government committee that is entirely embodied by all the elected councillors working on the different areas established to get a better functioning of the institution.
The different opposition parties participate in the Municipal Government either by the Municipal Corporation, or by taking part in Committees and Sectoral boards.
